Sweet Ribbet's Second Chance

A larger dog inflicted life-threatening injuries on an adorable black Labrador Retriever puppy named Ribbet shortly after the puppy found a new home. The harrowing encounter put Ribbet in urgent need of medical attention and highlighted the critical importance of adhering to adoption agreements.

A family adopted Ribbet from Second Chance Animal Services in Massachusetts when he was just two months old. However, they later surrendered him to another household without informing the shelter, which was against the adoption agreement. This new household already owned a larger dog.

"The outcome was devastating," Second Chance Animal Services shared in a post on Facebook. "The larger dog attacked Ribbet, delivering a bite so severe it crushed his tiny skull and damaged his eyes beyond repair.

Although Ribbet lost his eyes due to significant damage, the medical team at Second Chance Animal Hospital remained cautiously optimistic that his broken skull would fully heal.

A few weeks later, Ribbet's X-rays showed his remarkable resilience. Second Chance Animal Services shared the happy news in a post on its Facebook page. After the swelling had subsided and his skull fracture had healed, he was ready for adoption. Fortunately, his foster family had grown to love Ribbet, and he became a permanent household member. They even taught him how much fun playing fetch with a jingle ball could be!

Second Chance Animal Services has encountered another challenge. An electrical fire temporarily closed the Worcester Hospital, further straining the organization's resources. Insurance will not cover all restoration costs, and Second Chance is raising funds to reopen the hospital.
